Thanks for visiting the CODE blog! This is a super quick introduction to our latest creation; Big Evolving Sound System, or BESS for short.

Who we are

If this is the first time you’ve come across CODE, we’re a small high-end Hifi company, based in Woking, England. You can see one of our products, the SA1 system below:

And I’m the founder and chief designer, Ceri Thomas:

This video is taken on a mobile phone, so the sound quality is not fully representative!

What is BESS?

BESS is a bit of an experiment really, to see if we could make a top quality ‘Hifi’ speaker using PA drive units.

It’s part of our wider blog ‘What can Hifi learn from PA?’ series:

What’s the mission?

Well high end Hifi is almost exclusively the preserve of 50 plus men. In fact the sad truth is, most millenials seem to think you don’t need anything more than your average blue-tooth speaker for great sound:

I suspect that’s just because they’ve never heard a good sound system. Unlike the olden days, when most homes had a ‘proper’ Hifi:

What’s the plan?

Well we’re planning on taking BESS on the road, doing a few pop-ups where people can have a beer or wine and listen to some good music, played through a good system.

More info to follow …

Hopefully we can convince a few people to leave their blue-tooth speaker in the kitchen, and buy a decent Hifi for the living room. It doesn’t need to be the size of BESS (!) and it needn’t cost an arm and a leg, as one of our other blogs shows:
